Overall, I had a satisfactory experience at Oliva Clinic Adyar. I had consulted with Dr. Sindhuri for under eye hyperpigmentation. I definitely praise Oliva’s customer care team for the quick turnaround and for accommodating me at the earliest. Also a big shoutout to the lovely customer care representative who helped me get a good offer on my visit to the clinic. I also really love how the treatment is structured, you get a body composition report and a consultation with the nutritionist. Really appreciate this aspect of the consultation process. Finally, the front office staff are super friendly and informative, making you feel comfortable throughout your time at the clinic. Moving on to the cons: 1) Now, I haven’t consulted at a professional dermatology/aesthetics clinic in India before, so this could very well be a personal opinion. I felt like the doctor was acting less like a medical professional and more like a pushy salesman. This is not a dig at the doctor’s credentials, she may be a highly qualified dermatologist. Nevertheless, I believe there should be some sort of professionalism maintained during a consultation. 2) I was very clear that I understood I have deep-set eyes (with a tear through). However, I also have hyperpigmentation under my eyes and this can be noticed quite well once you pull the under eye skin, a significant brown pigmentation can be observed. 3) The doctor seemed to take a very nonchalant look, didn’t really pull the skin to examine the issue, and outright started pitching Hyaluronic Acid under eye fillers. It’s quite ironic she’d go in such great lengths with her pitch when I had acknowledged my facial structure and my stance at the very beginning. 4) The whole sales pitch went on for quite sometime and I had to keep reminding Dr.Sindhuri that I wasn’t interested in fillers or chemical peels at the moment and wanted to explore other options such as medicated creams/gels/serums etc. Then she started talking about chemical peels and I once again had to make my stance clear. Then with a lot of hesitation (and probably sheer lack of interest?) she prescribed an under eye retinal cream. 5) Perhaps it’s just my assumption, I felt like the doctor expressed signs of sheer disinterest in the consultation as soon as I shot down conversations surrounding fillers and peels. Furthermore, I had discussed in detail about the products I was already using on my skin. I expected the doctor would explain how the new medication worked and help me understand how I could best use/layer the products. Unfortunately no conversation of this sort happened and I now have to rely on AI agents and the internet to understand how to best use retinoids. 6) At the end of the treatment, especially after making my stance on fillers quite clear, the doctor still asked if I’d like to discuss pricing packages. I just really wish the doctor would understand this was a professional consultation and not sales. And not just this, at the end, one of the front office ladies took me to the consultation room and asked if I’d like to explore pricing options/packages (I’m sure she discussed with the doctor and was well aware of my stance), and even told me that she had got under eye fillers and walked me through different client results. All this felt really marketing/sales heavy. I’m not against the doctor mentioning fillers but I think it’s basic knowledge that even hyaluronic acid fillers don’t fully dissolve into the skin and could leave one with pillow face and/or exhibit Tyndall Effect in the future. And that under eye fillers are extremely risky and should be recommended only under the most necessary circumstances. For a qualified medical professional to push fillers without explaining the pros and cons in depth seems incredibly unprofessional.
